Mike Aistrop Director of Venn Radio Productions CIC
Mike’s journey with music began in 1991 at Hull’s legendary Welly Club, where he first experienced the raw energy of hardcore rave at an event called Trapdoor. That night was transformational: stepping into a space where everyone was welcome, regardless of sex, sexuality, race, or religion. Mike felt the power of music to unite people and change the world. From that moment, his love for electronic music never faded. He bought decks, collected records, and played in pubs in the various places he lived, keeping the spirit of rave alive wherever he went.
In 2022, Mike helped organise Renegade in Hull, which runs free, secret raves that carried forward the underground tradition. By 2024, he joined forces with Jack Rimmington to support Leg-it, a movement that quickly made waves. That same year, Leg-it became the first event in the country to respond to the national riots with Rave Against Hate, supported by Love Music Hate Racism. It was during this time that the idea of Venn Radio was born, sparked by a conversation with Kat Fairplay and Jack while searching for venues in Hull. For Mike, Hull is a sleeping giant, a city brimming with raw talent waiting to be shared with the world. His vision for Venn Radio is simple but powerful: to create a space where music connects communities, one (virtual or in person) sweaty raver hug at a time.
Beyond the dancefloor, Mike brings a wealth of professional expertise. As a Lean Manufacturing specialist, he has worked across industries including automotive, nuclear, paper mills, and now offshore wind in the UK and Europe. His ability to streamline processes and deliver consistent, repeatable outcomes will be key to ensuring Venn Radio runs with the same precision and energy as the music it celebrates.
